The Innovation Programme (IvP) at Nan Chiau Primary School (NCPS) follows a user-first approach, where lessons are designed to align with the unique strengths and interests of each student. This approach helps students build the creative confidence they need to push boundaries, explore new areas and innovate.

This learning journey, designed by teachers for teachers, offers participants the opportunity to observe an organic, unscripted and authentic IvP lesson. Expect to see messy tables filled with meaningful work, the excitement of shared discovery, the courage to try again and the power of supporting one another – moments that go beyond a lesson plan and drive real growth in students.

The session begins with a pre-lesson briefing and classroom observation, followed by an introduction to the school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) and how it fosters critical, adaptive, and inventive thinking (CAIT). Participants will engage in hands-on activities that offer a glimpse into how NCPS teachers help students overcome hesitation and push beyond their limits in generating new ideas.

The session concludes with a reflective debrief, where educators will explore challenges they face in building creative confidence and discuss how they can adopt a user-first approach to help students step outside their comfort zones, take creative risks, and innovate.

Note: NCPS teams have been recognised with the Innovation Mindset and Innovation Impact Awards for two consecutive years, since the introduction of these awards in partnership with 3M Singapore.

Wendy is a Senior Teacher (Science) with a strong focus on innovation in teaching and learning. She has worked closely with higher-ability learners through E2K Science and the Innovation Programme (IvP).

Wendy serves as a facilitator for the Primary Science HALs NLC in the North Zone. She is also one of the presenters from the Primary Science team at the upcoming GE Conference concurrent session.

Now in her fifth year of leading IvP, Wendy approaches each cycle with a beginner’s mindset. She values the unique ideas and perspectives each group of students brings, which helps keep the programme dynamic and responsive.

She is supported by Jimmy, entering his third IvP cycle, and Belden, who offers a fresh perspective in his first. Together, the team is dedicated to helping students develop their strengths and passions, guiding them in creating designs that benefit real-world users.
