Students often understand the importance of persisting through difficulties and being open to feedback, but many struggle to apply these skills in the classroom. For students with academic talents, these psychosocial skills are crucial for progressing from ability to competence. In this session, teachers will share how they create opportunities for students to develop these skills through everyday learning.
Productive struggle is built into lesson tasks such as open-ended Science investigations and Mathematics problems. Students encounter uncertainty and learn to stay engaged when answers are not immediate. When mistakes occur, they learn to use peers as resources—reviewing strategies, making adjustments, and trying again. These habits are reinforced through regular group work and discussion routines across subjects. Students practise listening to others, building on ideas, and refining their thinking. Over time, routines such as revising ideas after feedback, evaluating peers’ thinking, and building on strengths become familiar patterns that students apply across lessons.
The session will share practical examples of task design, classroom talk moves, and lesson routines that help turn everyday lessons into consistent practice for psychosocial skill development.

This concurrent session features a team of Gifted Education Programme teachers who bring extensive experience in nurturing high-ability learners across core academic disciplines.
