OP12 Leveraging E2K to Develop e21CC
Date: 7 April 2026
Time: 1400 - 1600
Venue: Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School
Teacher: Mr Lew Kai Keng (Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School)
In this session, Mr Lew Kai Keng will showcase an adapted version of the E2K module “How Many
Weights?”, catering to a selected group of mixed-ability learners.
Drawing on the school-based approach of Our ABCDs to Communication, students use sentence starters to engage with conjectures and justifications shared by their peers, enriching mathematical discussions.
The session highlights the Initiate–Respond–Follow-up as a key pedagogical tool to scaffold students’ thinking, encourage productive struggle, and develop Adaptive and Inventive Thinking, key components of the Emerging 21st Century Competencies (e21CC). Students are supported to respond to new information, refine their ideas, and adjust their strategies flexibly when faced with unfamiliar or non-routine problems.
The lesson also promotes collaboration and the use of ClassPoint, enabling students to make their thinking visible as they work in groups, allowing ideas and misconceptions to be surfaced, discussed, and refined.
Through discussion and reflection, the session illustrates how this lesson can nurture confident learners who are able to reason logically, communicate clearly, and think flexibly in mathematics.

Mr Lew Kai Keng is a Senior Teacher (Mathematics) from the Mathematics Department of Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School. He is actively involved in the development of High Ability learners through the school’s Thinkers Today, Leaders Tomorrow (TTLT) programme, where he extends students’ mathematical thinking while supporting the development of Emerging 21st Century Competencies (e21CC) through the E2K and C2T modules.
