As Singapore strengthens its focus on recognising and developing diverse learner strengths, teachers are seeking practical ways to design lessons that reveal students’ potential while supporting their growth. In Primary Science, thoughtfully structured learning experiences can surface important learner behaviours such as creativity, motivation and scientific reasoning—traits that often remain hidden in routine tasks.
This session will examine how intentional lesson design can create these opportunities. Participants will explore how inquiry-based investigations, collaborative group tasks, concept-cartoon discussions, hands-on exploratory stations and other rich science routines allow students to demonstrate deeper thinking and engagement.
The session will also highlight how teachers can observe these behaviours during lessons and make purposeful adjustments to extend students’ learning.
Through concrete examples from primary science context, the workshop aims to clarify how lesson design, keen observation, and responsive follow-up can work together to nurture students’ emerging strengths in meaningful and sustainable ways.

MTT Madeline is a Primary Science Master Teacher who supports schools in assessment literacy, curriculum enactment and talent development. She has taught and mentored students with strengths and talents in Science and now works with teachers across the system to strengthen responsive and inclusive science instruction.
Wendy is a Senior Teacher for Science with a strong focus on innovation in teaching and learning. She brings practical classroom experience in designing and trialling new approaches, and she has supported students with strengths and talents in Science through lessons that emphasise curiosity, creativity, and
challenge.
Qiuwen is a Senior Teacher specialising in designing learning experiences to stretch students with strengths and talents in Science. Her work centres on responsive teaching, creating conditions that allow to grow while nurturing motivation and confidence.
